Education:

International Space University JAN 2011 - FEB 2011

Southern Hemisphere Summer Space Program 2011

I attended the first Southern Hemisphere Summer Space Program in South Australia. This was a joint program by the International Space University and the University of South Australia and is an accredited course from both establishments. I received a scholarship which paid the majority of the course fees. The course was a great experience where I learnt about the space industry across all disciplines. These ranged from orbital mechanics, to launching platforms, to space law and policy. After the formal classes I participated, as part of the management team, in a group white paper, outlining the Southern Hemispheres current and future roles in the space industry.

My completion grade was: 82.5% “very good”

RMIT University                        MAR 2008 - NOV 2010

Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace - Mechanical) with Honors class 2AI

Completed studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Aerospace) at RMIT University. This degree required me to undertake a final year thesis project. My topic for this project was the detailed design and testing of a hybrid rocket to be used as a replacement for the Zuni rocket, in low earth orbit, atmospheric testing. This involved me designing modifications to the existing design (by past students at RMIT), constructing the rocket engine for testing and finally performing a static live-fire of the rockets engine. This demonstrates my ability to manage a project from both an analytical and a practical approach.

Thesis project Abstract

Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University is undertaking a project to develop a re-usable hybrid rocket as a sounding rocket for atmospheric testing. The rocket will achieve a height of 12km while carrying a payload of 24kg. The idea is that RMIT students in both undergraduate and post-graduate positions can use the rocket as part of their studies. The rocket tests will be performed out of the Australian Defence Force testing facility at Woomera, South Australia.

The purpose of the thesis was to outline the progress of the project. The rocket will be constructed and tested, with any modification needed to the design. A working rocket will lead to an up-scaling of the rocket design for greater height and eventually to a multi-stage system achieving heights exceeding 100km.

Final year grades

RMIT University  MAR 2006 - NOV 2007

Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Aerospace - Mechanical)

I completed studying an Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Aerospace - Mechanical) at RMIT University. This was a two year TAFE course equivalent to the first two years of the Bachelor course. It did, however, have more practical subjects such as trade skills that required the use of a work-shop to construct components similar to those found on aircraft.

St Joseph's College Ferntree Gully       FEB 2000 - DEC 2005

Victorian Certificate of Education

I completed my VCE in 2005 with an Enter Score of 74
